Malik Akhtar Javaid
M.A. (English Literature), LL.B (Punjab) LL.M (USA), Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan
Malik Akhtar Javaid did his M.A. in English Literature from Government College University, Lahore, LL.B from University of the Punjab, Lahore and LL.M from USA. He successfully cleared his CSS examinations and was also selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission for Lectureship in English. He was also selected for commission as a Captain in the Education Corps of the Pakistan Army but preferred to join the Legal Profession. He worked as a Consultant with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Project on Planning and Budgeting in the North West Frontier Province in 2003. He also wrote a Book Review on “Humane Governance for Human Security and Sustainable Human Development”. He has also drafted a Report on Mountain Area Conservancy Project for the UNDP. He has remained the Chairman of the Youth Conference organized by the Rotary Club in 1999, President of the English Literary Council, Government College, Lahore and was the winner of the Feroz-ud-Din Creative Essay Writing Competition in 1998. He led a Lawyers’ Delegation to India and held meetings with the Indian Lawyers at Supreme Court Bar Association of India at Delhi, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Ajmer and Jaipur regarding the new emerging demands in the legal profession. He also headed the Lahore Chapter during his meetings with Raja of Jodhpur in India, pertaining to the normalization of relationships between India & Pakistan, which was an offshoot of the track two diplomacy strategy formulated by the Govt. of Pakistan.
He has served as Additional Advocate General Punjab, acting Advocate General Punjab and Secretary of the Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department of the Government of Punjab. He has worked as Senior Associate/Consultant in a Corporate Law Firm “Walker Martineau Saleem” for seven consecutive years as Head of Banking and Corporate Wing. He had been appearing on behalf of Allied Bank of Pakistan, United Bank of Pakistan, Bank of Punjab, Mybank Limited, Faysal Bank Limited, Habib Metropolitan Bank, Saudi Pak Commercial Bank, Trust Investment Bank, Silkbank Limited, Bank of Punjab, Meezan Bank, Bank of Khyber, Summit Bank Limited,and Emirates Global Islamic Bank. In addition to this he has worked for ORIX Leasing Pakistan Limited for seven years and successfully won the cases in favor of the above Financial Institutions and the said Leasing Company. He has had an ample exposure of drafting commercial agreements, joint venture agreements, deeds, and franchise agreements and in this regard rendered his legal services to various public and private organizations. He has been a recipient of a token of Appreciation/Acknowledgement from Annemarie Schimmel Haus, Goethe Institute, the institutes governed and controlled by Federal Public of Germany for successfully disposing of the cases filed by and against the said institutes. He is an active member of Banking Reforms Committee and is also a Member of Executive Committee of Lahore High Court Bar Association (2009-2010) and has contributed a lot for bringing a vicissitude towards reformation of legal fraternity. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions in maintaining and developing bilateral relationships among countries, he was appointed Chairman Pak-US Relations Committee, Lahore High Court (2011-2012), Chairman Anti-Corruption Committee, Lahore High Court in (2012-2013) while he is currently serving as Chairman International Relations Committee, Lahore High Court (2013-2015). His articles have appeared in various magazines, journals and newspapers. His Areas of Expertise are Banking Law, Civil Law and Constitutional Law. He is also the author of a poetry book titled “Ephemeral Pleasures”.
